San José Castle
The Castillo de San José is a fitting place for a visit to one of the most special places in Arrecife. Located in Puerto Nao, an important strategic enclave for the city, the Castillo de San José has a capacity for groups of about 100 people and, inside, you can visit the International Museum of Contemporary Art.
The Lanzarote architect and artist César Manrique directed the project to refurbish its facilities to house what was to become the first contemporary art museum in the Canary Islands. Inside there is also a restaurant with a glassed-in area overlooking the bay of Arrecife. A place with privileged views where you can taste typical and seasonal cuisine. Mirador del Rio
The Mirador del Río is one of the most iconic constructions of César Manrique’s entire oeuvre. A place of silence, of tranquility, of breathing the air of its special environment, which have made it one of the most appreciated places. Its views of the Chinijo archipelago, with the island of La Graciosa in front, and the panoramic view it offers of Lanzarote are more than enough reasons to approach and enjoy a very special enclave.
Although the Mirador del Río does not have meeting space, it is a perfect option for visits with any type of group. Cactus garden
In Guatiza (Teguise) you can find one of the most impressive places of Lanzarote: the Cactus Garden. An enclave where you can be surrounded by more than 4,000 specimens of cactus from around 500 species from all over the world. This work, one of César Manrique’s last, revived an area that was in a state of neglect. An agricultural landfill used by those who were dedicated to the cultivation of tuneras.
The revitalization of this place greened one of the most visited enclaves of Lanzarote. For twenty years, the landscape of this natural monument has been forming. Its architecture, full of elements that blend in with the surroundings, further enhances the beauty of an environment that has become a unique site in the world. The total art of César Manrique can be seen throughout this work, one of the purest of the island of Lanzarote. The poetry of the surroundings, the beauty and life of nature speak for themselves.
